High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Removal

NOTE: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components.

NOTE: Do not loosen any fittings or plugs on the high-pressure fuel pump.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
1. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the rear engine lift eye.
2. Detach the wiring harness retainers and position aside.

Release the tabs and remove the upper plastic and the foam high-pressure fuel pump cover.

Remove the lower plastic and the foam high-pressure fuel pump cover retainer and position the fuel tube up.

Using a knife, cut the lower plastic high-pressure fuel pump cover at the two positions shown, then remove the lower plastic high-pressure fuel pump cover. Use the General Equipment: Knife

1. Remove the lower foam high-pressure fuel pump cover retainer.
2. Using a knife, cut the lower foam high-pressure fuel pump cover at the position shown and remove. Use the General Equipment: Knife

Position the fuel tube down.

NOTE: When removing the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator, spreading the openings will reduce the risk of damage.

Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling and position aside. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .

Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump and the camshaft position sensor electrical connectors.

Disconnect the electrical connector, then detach the wiring harness retainers and move the wire harness out of the way.

NOTE: To release the fuel pressure in the high-pressure fuel tube, wrap the high-pressure fuel pump flare nut with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the loosening of high-pressure fuel pump flare nut.

Remove the high-pressure fuel tube bracket studbolts. Loosen the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts, then disconnect, remove and discard the high-pressure fuel tube.

1. Alternately loosen the high-pressure fuel pump bolts one complete revolution at a time. Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump bolts.
2. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump with the mounting plate.
