NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

  3. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  5. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
    2. Remove the hood. Refer to: Hood .
    3. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
    5. Remove the EVAP canister purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .
    6. Remove the LH and RH fender splash shields. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
    7. Remove the engine front undershield. Refer to: Engine Front Undershield .
    8. Remove the engine rear undershield. Refer to: Engine Rear Undershield .

  6. NOTE: The crankcase vent tube may have either a permanent or quick connect connector at one or both ends. If the tube needs to be removed for any reason, the permanent connector(s) must be cut to remove the tube. The tube will then need to be replaced.
    NOTE: If the crankcase vent tube is replaced, the replacement part may not come with a crankcase pressure sensor. If so, the PCM will need to be reprogrammed.

    • If equipped, disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.

    • Cut the lock tab, on both ends, if needed. Use the General Equipment: Side Cutter Pliers

    • Remove and discard the crankcase vent tube.

  7. Remove the ground cable bolt, retainer and position the ground cable on the engine.

    • Disconnect the quick release coupling and the retainer from the intake manifold and position the brake vacuum tube assembly aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  9. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector and detach the brake vacuum tube retainers and remove.

  10. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector and the retainer.

  11. Disconnect the PCM wiring harness electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainer from the rear engine lift eye.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers and position aside.

  13. Release the tabs and remove the upper plastic and foam high-pressure fuel pump cover.

  14. Remove the lower plastic and foam high-pressure fuel pump cover retainer and position the fuel tube up.

  15. NOTE: The lower plastic high-pressure fuel pump cover will only need to be cut one time and then can be reused.

    Using a knife, cut the lower plastic high-pressure fuel pump cover at the two positions shown and remove the lower plastic high-pressure fuel pump cover. Use the General Equipment: Knife

    • Remove the lower foam high-pressure fuel pump cover retainer.

    • NOTE: The lower foam high-pressure fuel pump cover will only need to be cut one time and then can be reused.

      Using a knife, cut the lower foam high-pressure fuel pump cover at the position shown and remove. Use the General Equipment: Knife

  17. Position the fuel tube down.

  20. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling and position aside. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .

    • Disconnect the degas bottle hose from coolant tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Disconnect the heater hose from the coolant tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  29. Disconnect the coolant hoses from engine coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Disconnect the A/C wiring harness electrical connectors.

    • Disconnect the A/C pressure sensor electrical connector.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers from engine ground bolt and from the A/C compressor bracket and A/C line.

  31. Remove the nut and position the A/C compressor bracket aside.

    • Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain bolt.

      Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

    1. Using brake cleaner, clean the drain troughs. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    1. Remove the generator nut.
    2. Remove the generator stud.
    3. Remove the stud bolts and position and support the generator aside.

    • Remove the nuts and bolts and lower the sway bar.

    • Discard the nuts and bolts.

  55. Position the sway bar disconnect back so the front sway bar bracket holes are on the sway bar studs bolts and install the old nuts finger tight to position the sway bar aside.

  56. Disconnect transmission electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers and position the harness on the engine.

    • Index mark one stud and the flexplate for assembly reference.

    • NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.

      Remove and discard the torque convertor nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket

    • Detach the transmission and transfer case vent tubes retainer from the LH bracket.

    • Detach the fuel tube and vapor line retainer from the RH bracket.
