  1. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.

  4. NOTE: Use caution as not to scratch the sealing surfaces of input shaft or transmission housing.
    NOTE: The input shaft seal has 2 designated patches that are for puncture holes.

    Using a screw/dent puller and slide hammer, remove and discard the input shaft seal and the counter shaft bolt plug. Use the General Equipment: Slide Hammer Dent Puller

  5. Place the transmission in 4th gear.

    1. Place the transmission in 4th gear.
    2. Install the special tool on the input shaft. Use Special Service Tool: 205-175 Socket, Drive Pinion Nut.
    3. Holding the special tool, remove the counter shaft bolt.
    4. NOTE: Use care to not scratch the input shaft surfaces or a leak may be the result.

      Remove and discard the input shaft circlip.

  6. Remove the screws and the gear position sensor.

    1. Assure the transmission is in fourth gear.
    2. Use the special tool to hold the input shaft. Use Special Service Tool: 205-175 Socket, Drive Pinion Nut.
    3. Using the special tool, remove the output shaft nut. Use Special Service Tool: 308-883 Wrench, Output Shaft Nut.

    Using the special tool, remove the output shaft oil seal thrust pad. Use Special Service Tool: 205-071-01 Adapter for 205-071 (Thrust Pad).Use the General Equipment: Puller

  8. Remove and discard the output shaft oil seal.

  23. NOTE: Use caution to not round out the hex head of the select gate pin.
    NOTE: The select gate pin may require to be heated by a heat gun for removal.

    Remove and discard select gate pin. Remove the shift selector.

    1. NOTE: Use a two leg puller OTC-1040 or equivalent.

      Using a soft face hammer and punch, remove the alignment dowel pins. Use the General Equipment: Punch

    2. NOTE: When removing the midplate, the midplate bearing should stay on the shafts, however they may come off with the midplate. Be prepared for the midplate bearings to fall out.
      NOTE: Use caution and pull the midplate off square or damage to the midplate bearing could occur.

      Using a 2 jaw puller and a thrust pad, remove the transmission mid plate. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller

  25. Remove the shift dampener lever spacer.

  31. Using a hydraulic press and a 2nd man, remove the shaft assemblies.

    1. Using the hydraulic press, press the counter shaft free from the case bearing. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
    2. Using the hydraulic press, press the input shaft free from the case bearing. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
