Catalytic Converter - 7-Speed Manual Transmission - MT88: Removal

WARNING: When the engine and exhaust system are hot, they can cause severe burns or injury. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Disconnect the harness retainers and the electrical connector.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
Remove the exhaust flexible pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe .
Remove RH side fender splash shield only. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
Remove the nut, push pin and the bracket.
Torque

: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

Disconnect and position aside the electrical connector.

Remove and discard the catalytic converter to turbocharger nuts.

Remove the catalytic converter hanger bracket nut, and then carefully remove the catalytic converter.

Remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE: The following step is only required if the components are being replaced with new items:

Remove the heated exhaust gas oxygen sensors. Install Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

Brace Bracket

NOTE: The below following steps are only necessary, if you are replacing the exhaust hot end brace bracket.
Remove the nut.
Torque

: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

Loosen the bolt.
Torque

: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

Remove the bolts and the brace bracket.
Torque

: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
