Pinpoint Test G: The Tachometer Is Inoperative

If the IPC does not receive the engine rpm data from the PCM for more than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the tachometer to 0 rpm.

- G1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart No GO to G2 - G2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to Communications Network . No GO to G3 - G3 PERFORM THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Access the IPC and control the TACH_IND (%) PID

NOTE: Make sure to set the scan tool to 0 rpm before beginning this step.
Command the tachometer in 10% increments while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer increase approximately 800 rpm with each 10% increment?
Yes DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Refer to the appropriate DTC Index. No INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
