Pinpoint Test BA: The Gauge Display Is Inoperative - Engine Oil Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Turbo Boost (Off Road Display)

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Engine Oil Temperature Gauge Display, Transmission Temperature Gauge Display, Turbo Boost Gauge Display. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the engine oil temperature data message, transmission fluid temperature data message or turbo boost data message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the associated display element to the last display based on the last data received.

    If the engine oil temperature data message, transmission fluid temperature data message or turbo boost data message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC sets a lost communication DTC for the module in question and defaults the associated display element off or blank.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • PCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. BA1 VERIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) IS SET TO DISPLAY THE GAUGE

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: The IPC and message center navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.

      Using the message center controls, make sure the IPC is set to display the gauge in question.

    Is the IPC set to display the gauge in question? 

    Yes  GO to  BA2
    No  The gauge display is operating correctly. The IPC was not set to the correct display.

  3. BA2 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  BA3

  4. BA3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CM DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  GO to  BA4

  5. BA4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
