Pinpoint Test F : DTCS P177B, P177D
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TRCM receives two voltage inputs from the BJB. The hot in start and run fuse 23 (15A) circuit powers the TRCM micro processor. The hot at all times fuse 83 (20A) circuit powers the motors in the TRCM that are used to move the selector lever cable and the transmission manual valve inside the main control valve body. If the TRCM detects excessive current draw in the motor power circuit while shifting, it may indicate a mechanical fault.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TRCM P177B:00 Transmission Range Select Motor Current Too High: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TRCM is experiencing excessive current draw when shifting between positions. TRCM P177D:00 Default Position Motor Current Too High: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the default to park motor overheated during a default to park event. Possible Sources
- Connectors damaged, pushed-out or corroded terminals
- Selector lever cable
- Mechanical obstruction in the path of the TRCM output arm
- TRCM mechanical/electrical integrity

Are DTCs P177B and/or P177D present?
Yes GO to F2 No The system is operating correctly at this time. -
- F2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION MANUAL CONTROL LEVER
- Make sure the transmission manual control lever is in the park position.
- Apply the park brake.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission manual control lever.
- Manually move the manual control lever from the park position to the low position.
Does the transmission manual valve move through each range without restriction?
Yes GO to F3 No INSPECT the transmission manual valve and the transmission rooster comb spring, REFER to: Main Control Valve Body . - F3 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the TRCM output arm.
- Manually move the selector lever cable.
Does the selector lever cable slide without restriction?
Yes GO to F4 No INSTALL a new selector lever cable. REFER to: Selector Lever Cable - 1.5L EcoBoost (118kW/160PS) - I4 . - F4 PERFORM THE TRCM (TRANSMISSION RANGE CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Connect the selector lever cable to the TRCM output arm and the transmission manual control lever.
- Perform the TRCM self-test.
Are DTCs P177B and/or P117D present?
Yes INSTALL a new TRCM. REFER to: Transmission Range Control Module (TRCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time.
