Power Transfer Unit Draining and Filling

Materials 

Name Specification
Motorcraft® SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant XY-75W140-QL WSL-M2C192-A

Draining 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. If equipped. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

  3. Remove the PTU drain plug.

  4. Install the PTU drain plug.

    Torque: 33 lb.ft (45 Nm)

Filling 

  1. Remove the PTU fill plug.

  2. Fill the PTU with clean fluid, level with the fill plug opening.

    Material: Motorcraft® SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant / XY-75W140-QL (WSL-M2C192-A)

  3. Install the PTU fill plug.

    Torque: 33 lb.ft (45 Nm)

  4. If equipped. Install the underbody shield.
