Pinpoint Test I : The Analog Tachometer Is Inoperative

If the IPC does not receive the engine rpm data from the PCM for more than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the tachometer to 0 rpm.

- Communication concern
- PCM
- GWM
- IPC
- I1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to the DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to I2 - I2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network . No GO to I3 - I3 PERFORM THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Access the IPC and control the TACH_IND (%) PID

NOTE: Make sure to set the scan tool to 0 rpm before beginning this step.
Command the tachometer in 10% increments while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer increase approximately 800 rpm with each 10% increment?
Yes DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article. No Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
