Rear Bumper Cover: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Remove the outer rear lamp assemblies. Refer to: Rear Lamp Assembly .
  2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  3. On both sides. Remove the inner wheel liner to rear bumper cover screws.

    Torque: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)

  4. If equipped, on both sides. Remove the screws, the nuts and the rear bumper cover shield.

    Torque: Screw: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm) | Nut: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

    1. Disconnect the rear bumper cover harness electrical connector.
    2. If equipped. Disconnect the RH cellular antenna electrical connector.

  5. If equipped. Disconnect the LH cellular antenna electrical connector.

  6. Remove the rear center bumper cover shield screws.

    Torque: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)

  7. With the help of an assistant. Remove the rear bumper cover.

    1. Position the luggage compartment weatherstrip aside.
    2. Release the sides and rear of the rear bumper cover from the side and rear brackets.
    3. Using a non-marring tool, release the center of the rear bumper cover from the rear brackets. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  8. On both sides. Inspect the side and rear brackets for damage.

  9. If required, on both sides.

    1. Detach the wiring harness retainer and position the wiring harness aside.
    2. Remove the screws and the damaged side and rear brackets.

      Torque: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)

    1. If equipped. Detach the wiring harness retainers and position the wiring harness aside.
    2. Remove the screws and the damaged rear bracket.

      Torque: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)
