Front Seat Backrest Cover - Vehicles With: Climate Controlled Seats: Removal

WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to: Front Seat  .
  2. Remove the head restraint guide sleeves. Refer to: Front Head Restraint Guide Sleeve  .
  3. Position the backrest wire harnesses aside.

    1. Detach the electrical connector retainers from the seat track.
    2. Release the locking tabs and disconnect the backrest wire harness electrical connectors.

  4. NOTE: Follow the unique instructions or graphics for this step in the installation for backrest blower motor snorkel routing.

    1. Detach the backrest cover straps.
    2. Route the backrest cover straps through the backrest blower motor snorkel.
    3. Position the backrest cover upward.

  5. Detach the retainers and position the backrest wire harnesses aside.

  6. Release the backrest cover lower J-clip.

  7. Route the backrest wire harnesses through the backrest cover openings.

  8. Remove the backrest cover pin-type retainers.

  9. NOTE: Use care when separating the seat backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the seat backrest foam.

    Partially invert the backrest cover enough to access the side airbag deployment chute retainer.

    1. Release the hook and loop strips.
    2. Invert the backrest cover.

  10. Release the side airbag deployment chute retainer and position the chute through the backrest foam opening.

  11. Partially invert the backrest cover and release the backrest cover J-clips from the lumbar support springs.

  12. Release the backrest cover upper J-clip.

    Remove the hog rings.

  14. NOTE: Use care when separating the seat backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the seat backrest foam.

    Partially invert the backrest cover enough to access the upper hog rings.

    1. Release the hook and loop strips.
    2. Invert the backrest cover.

    Remove the hog rings.

    Remove the backrest cover while releasing the hook and loop strips.
