Reductant Pump: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: During the removal or installation of components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all openings and tubes/fittings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.
  1. NOTE: DO NOT use compressed air as this could force dirt and foreign material into the ports of the reductant heater and sender unit.

    Use a clean shop towel to dry the water and reductant from the mounting interface on the top of the reductant heater and sender unit.

  2. NOTE: Make sure the reductant heater and sender unit O-ring area is clean of any dirt or foreign material before installing the reductant pump O-rings. Failure to do so may cause a reductant pump leak.
    NOTE: The reductant pump O-ring should not be lubricated with anything other than clean reductant. Using grease or other petroleum-based lubricants may damage the reductant pump.
    NOTE: Only install the new large reductant pump O-ring at this time.

    Lubricate the reductant pump new large O-ring with only clean reductant and install it into the large port on the reductant heater and sender unit.

  3. NOTE: Do not insert the reductant heater and sender unit small O-ring into reductant pump supply port in the reductant heater and sender unit. Installing this O-ring into the reductant pump supply port in the reductant heater and sender unit can cause it to roll or pinch when installing the reductant pump.
    NOTE: If a new reductant pump is being installed, prime the new reductant pump using the syringe included in the new reductant pump kit. The reductant pump kit includes a detailed instruction sheet to assist with the syringe and the reductant pump priming procedure.
    NOTE: The reductant heater and sender unit O-ring should not be lubricated with anything other than clean reductant. Using grease or other petroleum-based lubricants may damage the reductant pump.
    NOTE: If a new reductant pump is being installed, then remove both protective caps from the 2 bottom ports of the new reductant pump and install them on the old reductant pump.

    Lubricate the reductant heater and sender unit new small O-ring with only clean reductant and install the new small O-ring on the small nipple on the bottom of the reductant pump.

  4. Correctly orientate the reductant pump to the reductant heater and sender unit as noted during the reductant pump removal and gently press the new reductant pump into place.

  5. NOTE: Make sure to tighten the reductant pump bolts evenly. Failure to do so may cause a reductant pump leak.

    Install the new reductant pump Allen cap screws. Evenly tighten the reductant pump Allen cap screws.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  6. Connect the electrical connectors.

  7. Install the reductant pump cover.
