Reductant Heater and Sender Unit: Removal

NOTE: Selective Catalyst Reduction (SRC)/Reductant system components are very sensitive to external contamination. Any possible measure should be taken to prevent contamination from entering the system while servicing it.
NOTE: Fresh reductant fluid should be the only lubricant used in the assembly of these components. The use of any other lubricant ESPECIALLY PETROLEUM BASED LUBES may cause damage to the system.
NOTE: Reductant fluid can corrode some metals. Reductant fluid must be stored and transported carefully. Reductant fluid must be disposed of according to local regulations.
NOTE: Petroleum contamination will cause permanent damage to the reductant system.
NOTE: During the removal or installation of components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all openings and tubes/fittings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.
  1. Remove the reductant pump. Refer to: Reductant Pump .
  2. Detach the wire routing clips from the reductant heater and sender unit lock ring. Detach the wire retaining clip from the wire harness. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the wire harness.

  3. Using the Fuel Tank Sender Unit Wrench, remove the reductant heater and sender unit lock ring. Use Special Service Tool: 310-069 Wrench, Fuel Tank Sender Unit.

  4. NOTE: Do not pry the top of the reductant heater and sender unit out of the reductant heater and sender unit seal. Doing so may cause reductant heater and sender unit or reductant tank sealing surface damage.
    NOTE: Note the orientation of the reductant heater and sender unit in the reductant tank for installation.

    Remove the top of the reductant heater and sender unit out of the reductant heater and sender unit seal.

  5. Remove and discard the reductant heater and sender unit seal.

  6. NOTE: Note the orientation of the reductant heater and sender unit in the reductant tank for installation.

    Reach inside the reductant tank opening and turn the reductant heater and sender unit counterclockwise to release the 4 reductant heater and sender unit retainers from the base in the bottom of the reductant tank. Remove the reductant heater and sender unit from the tank.
