Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor: Removal

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 

  1. Position the hose aside remove the oil filler cap and remove the engine appearance cover.

  2. NOTE: Some components not shown for clarity.

    Remove the lower turbocharger heat shield bolt.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

    Remove the bolts and position aside upper turbocharger heat shield.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  4. Disconnect the EGRT sensor electrical connector and release the EGRT sensor harness retainer.

  5. NOTE: Lubricate the EGRT sensor threads with penetrating and lock lubricant to assist in removal of the EGRT sensor.
    NOTE: Before installing the EGRT sensor apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the EGRT sensor.

    Remove the EGRT sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1

    Material: Motorcraft® High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant / XL-2

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

    Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 

  6. NOTE: During the removal and the installation of the EGRT sensor, the threaded bushing must be held with a wrench to prevent damage to the connecting EGR tube.
    NOTE: Lubricate the EGRT sensor threads with penetrating and lock lubricant to assist in removal of the EGRT sensor.
    NOTE: Before installing the EGRT sensor apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the EGRT sensor.

    Disconnect the EGRT sensor electrical connector and release the EGRT sensor harness retainer. Remove the EGRT sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1

    Material: Motorcraft® High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant / XL-2

    Torque: 32 lb.ft (44 Nm)
