Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler: Removal

  1. Remove the EGR valve. Refer to: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve .
  2. NOTE: The EGR cooler bypass valve solenoid vacuum hose crimp clamp will have to be removed and replaced with a conventional clamp.

    Remove the crimp clamp and discard. Disconnect the EGR bypass valve vacuum hose from the EGR cooler bypass valve solenoid and release the EGR cooler bypass valve solenoid vacuum harness retainers.

    1. Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolt.
    2. Remove the rear exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.

  3. Remove the EGR cooler vee-clamp nut and remove the EGR cooler vee-clamp. Discard the EGR cooler vee-clamp and the EGR cooler vee-clamp nut.

  4. Disconnect the EGR cooler hose.

    • Remove the EGR cooler tube mounting bolt.

    • Remove the EGR cooler mounting bolt and then remove the EGR cooler.

  5. Remove the EGR cooler gasket. Discard the EGR cooler gasket.
