Timing Chain: Removal

- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
- Align the timing marks on the timing chain.

NOTE: When the tool is properly installed, the locating pin will be approximately at the 10 o'clock position.
Using the special tool, set the crankshaft and camshaft positions. Install Special Service Tool: 303-1587 Timing Tool, Crankshaft.
- Remove Special Service Tool: 303-1587 Timing Tool, Crankshaft.

- Using the special tool, release and hold the ratchet mechanism. Use Special Service Tool: 100-010 Remover, O-Ring Seal.
- Compress the tensioner by pushing the timing chain tensioner arm toward the tensioner.
- Insert the punch into the hole to retain the tensioner. Use the General Equipment: 2 mm Punch
- Remove the bolts and the timing chain tensioner. Discard the timing chain tensioner.
- Remove the bolts, timing chain tensioner arm and the timing chain guides.
- Remove the bolts, the camshaft sprockets and the timing chain.
