Engine Front Cover: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Dual Batteries .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud. Refer to: Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud .
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
- Remove the generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi (148kW/200PS) - Puma .
- Position the hose aside, remove the oil filler cap and remove the engine appearance cover.
- Disconnect the wire retainer from the generator bracket.
- Remove the bolts, lifting bracket and generator bracket.
- Remove the nuts, bolt and position aside the power steering pump.
- If equipped, disconnect the block heater cord retainers and position aside.
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Disconnect the coolant hoses and hose retainer. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the nut and position aside the engine wire harness.
- Release the coolant hose clamp. Remove the bolt and position aside the thermostat assembly. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the bolts and the accessory drive idler assembly. Remove the idler assembly.
- Remove the nut, bolts and the coolant outlet connection.
- Inspect the O-ring, replace if necessary.
- Remove the nuts and bolts. Remove and discard the engine front cover.
- Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
