Oil Pump: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan may cause engine failure.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove and discard the RH and LH engine mount nuts.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .

NOTE: Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction only.
Align the timing marks.
- Remove the bolts and the LH oil tube.

NOTE: The Camshaft Holding Tool will hold the camshafts in the TDC position.
Install Special Service Tool: 303-1248 Camshaft holding tools.
- Remove the bolts and the RH oil tube.

NOTE: The Camshaft Holding Tool will hold the camshafts in the TDC position.
Install Special Service Tool: 303-1248 Camshaft holding tools.
NOTE: The following 3 steps are for primary timing chains that the colored links are not visible. - Mark the timing chain link that aligns with the timing mark on the LH intake VCT unit as shown.
- Mark the timing chain link that aligns with the timing mark on the RH intake VCT unit as shown.

NOTE: The crankshaft sprocket timing mark should be between the 2 colored links.
Mark the timing chain links that aligns with the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket as shown.
- Remove the bolts and the timing chain tensioner.
- Remove the timing chain tensioner arm.
- Remove the bolts and the lower LH timing chain guide.
- Position the timing chain aside and remove the crankshaft sprocket.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.
- Remove the nuts and the starter motor wiring harness.
- Remove the oil pan bolt.

- Remove the oil pan plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Install the oil pan drain plug.
Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers from the engine crossmember.
- Remove the retainer and position the oil cooler aside.
- Remove the bolt for the transmission cooler tubes.
- Install the stands under the RH engine mount bracket and under the engine front cover generator tab. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands
- Remove the power steering hose bracket bolt from the engine crossmember.

NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove and discard the RH and LH engine mount bolts from the bottom of the engine crossmember.
- With the aid of an assistant, remove and discard the engine crossmember bolts and remove the engine crossmember.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Using a pry tool on the pry pads shown, remove the oil pan.

- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation

- Remove the bolts and oil pump screen and pickup tube.
- Remove and discard the oil pump screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolts and oil pump.
