Engine Front Cover: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  3. Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.

  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
    2. Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
    3. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
    4. Refer to: Coolant Pump .

  5. Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Position the generator aside.
    4. Remove the stud bolt.

  7. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the accessory drive belt tensioner.

  8. Remove the wiring harness conduit bolt.

  9. Remove the wiring harness conduit nut and position the harness aside.

  10. Remove the power steering pump bracket stud bolt.

  11. Remove the bolts and position aside and support the power steering pump and hoses.

  12. Remove the bolt and the upper intake manifold support bracket.

  13. Remove the engine front cover bolts.

  14. Using a pry tool, locate the pry pads shown and pry the engine front cover loose and remove.

  15. Using the special tools, remove the engine front cover to coolant pipe seal. Use Special Service Tool: 205-150 (T80T-4000-S) Installer, Spindle Bearing, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

    • Thoroughly wash the engine front cover to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.

  17. Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
