Pinpoint Test V : The Lights On Indicator Is Never Or Always On
- NOTE: If DTC U0140:00 sets in the IPC, other symptoms can also be present such as an inoperative high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting, and door ajar indication.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
If the park lamp status message is missing for less than 2 seconds, the IPC defaults the lights on indicator to its last state (on or off), based upon the last known good message received.
If the park lamp status message is missing for 2 seconds or longer, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 in continuous memory and defaults the lights on indicator off.

- BCM concern
- IPC
- V1 CHECK THE PARKING LAMPS OPERATION
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKLAMP position.
- Observe the parking lamps.
Do the parking lights operate correctly?
Yes GO to V2 No REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description . - V2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to V3 - V3 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC lights on indicator (LIGHTS_ON) PID.
- Command the lights on indicator on and off while observing the indicator.
Does the lights on indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes DIAGNOSE any BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) . No Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
