Pinpoint Test S : The Glow Plug Indicator Is Never Or Always On

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
If the glow plug indication request message is missing for less than the programmed time, the IPC defaults the diesel glow plug indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.

If the glow plug indication request message is missing from the PCM, the BCM and the IPC set DTC U0100:00 in continuous memory

S1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .

No GO to S2

S2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

Yes REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .

No GO to S3

S3 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

Ignition ON.

Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

Select the IPC glow plug indicator (GLOW_PLUG) PID.

Command the glow plug indicator on then off while observing the glow plug indicator.

Does the glow plug indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes	DIAGNOSE any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and the glow plug system. Refer to Engine Controls - Powertrain DTC Charts & Descriptions (Diesel)

No	Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
