Pinpoint Test N : The Charging System Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
If the power system status message is missing for less than 2 seconds, the IPC defaults the charging system warning indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received
If the power system status message is missing for 2 seconds or longer, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 in continuous memory and defaults the charging system warning indicator on.

- N1 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC charging system warning indicator (CHARGE_LMP) PID.
- Command the charging system warning indicator on then off while observing the charging system warning indicator.
Does the charging system warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes GO to N2 No Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing . - N2 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM OPERATION
- Check the charging system operation.
Does the charging system operate correctly?
Yes GO to N3 No Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure. - N3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No If the charging system indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time. If the charging system warning indicator is always on, DIAGNOSE any BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
