Pinpoint Test H : The Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative

NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 sets in the IPC, other observable symptoms can be an inoperative tachometer, speedometer or odometer.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

If the BCM does not receive the engine coolant temperature message from the PCM, the BCM sets DTC U0100:00.

If the IPC does not receive the engine coolant temperature message from the BCM for longer than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0100:00 and defaults the temperature gauge to cold (C).

H1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .

No GO to H2

H2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

Yes REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .

No GO to H3

H3 CARRY OUT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

NOTE: Make sure to set the diagnostic scan tool to 0 or full cold before beginning this step.

Select the IPC temperature gauge (ENGCOOLNT) PID.

Command the temperature gauge on and off while monitoring the gauge.

Does the temperature gauge start at cold (C), move to full hot (H) and return to cold (C)?

Yes	DIAGNOSE any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Refer to Engine Controls - Powertrain DTC Charts & Descriptions (Except Diesel & Hybrid) or Engine Controls - Powertrain DTC Charts & Descriptions (Diesel) .

No	Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
