Pinpoint Test E : The Odometer Is Inoperative

  1. NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 sets in the IPC, other observable symptoms can be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or temperature gauge.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    If the wheel rotation count message is missing for 2 seconds or less, the IPC defaults the odometer to the last display, based upon the last known good odometer rolling count message.

    If the BCM does not receive the wheel rotation count message from the ABS module, the BCM sets DTC U0121:00

    If the IPC does not receive the wheel rotation count message from the BCM module for longer than 2 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0121:00 and the IPC defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----).

    If the odometer count message is deemed invalid by the IPC, the IPC defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----). If the NVM becomes corrupted or if any NVM failure occurs, the message ERROR displays in the odometer display area.

    Possible Sources 

    • BCM concern
    • ABS module concern
    • IPC

  2. E1 CHECK FOR CORRUPTED NON-VOLATILE MEMORY (NVM)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Observe the message center display area.

    Does the odometer display ERROR? 

    Yes  Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
    No  GO to  E2

  3. E2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  GO to  E3

  4. E3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  DIAGNOSE any ABS concerns. REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) And Stability Control .
