Pinpoint Test E : B1B44:96, B1B46:96, B1B48:96, B1B50:96

  1. NOTE: Before disconnecting the PAM or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The PAM supplies voltage and ground to the rear parking aid sensors and monitors the sensor signal return circuits when the ignition is on.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PAM B1B44:96 Right Rear Outer Sensor: Component Internal Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the right rear outer parking aid sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.
PAM B1B46:96 Right Rear Inner Sensor: Component Internal Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the right rear inner parking aid sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.
PAM B1B48:96 Left Rear Outer Sensor: Component Internal Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the left rear outer parking aid sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.
PAM B1B50:96 Left Rear Inner Sensor: Component Internal Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the left rear inner parking aid sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time.

    Possible Sources

    • Rear parking aid sensor
    • PAM

  2. E1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.

Are parking aid Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) other than B1B44:96, B1B46:96, B1B48:96 or B1B50:96 recorded?

Yes  DIAGNOSE the other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first. REFER to PAM DTC Chart .
    No  GO to  E2
  3. E2 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR OPERATION

NOTE: Make sure the area around the vehicle is clear of anything that can activate the parking aid system.

    • Clean the rear bumper and sensors with high-pressure water.

    • Make sure the suspect parking aid sensor(s) is flush-mounted in the bezel.

Does the rear parking aid pass both system checks?

Yes  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a dirty or blocked parking aid sensor.
No  INSTALL a new sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor. REFER to: Rear Inner Parking Aid Sensor . REFER to: Rear Outer Parking Aid Sensor . If the concern is still present after sensor replacement, GO to  E3
  4. E3 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the PAM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to: Parking Assist Control Module (PAM) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
