B-Pillar Side Impact Sensor: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
  2. Position the front door weatherstrip aside, release the clips and remove the front door scuffplate trim panel.

    Kombi 

  3. Remove the lower B-pillar trim panel.

    • Remove the safety belt anchor bolt and position the safety belt aside.

      Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

    • Position the rear door weatherstrip and the rear door scuff plate trim panel aside.

    • Release the clips, slide up and remove the lower B-pillar trim panel.

    Van 

  4. Remove the lower B-pillar trim panel.

    • Remove the safety belt anchor bolt and position the safety belt aside.

      Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

    • Position the front door weatherstrip aside.

    • Release the clips, slide up and remove the lower B-pillar trim panel.

    All vehicles 

  5. NOTE: The B-pillar and side impact sensor mating surfaces must be smooth and allow for a flush attachment to each other.

    Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the bolt and the B-pillar side impact sensor.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
