Engine Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding: Draining

  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, refer to Safety Warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    WARNING: When releasing the cooling system pressure, cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a thick cloth.

    Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.

  3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  4. If equipped. Remove the retainers and the shield plate.

  5. If equipped. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

    WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Use a suitable coolant hose to drain the coolant.

  7. Open the radiator drain valve and drain the engine coolant in a suitable, clean container. Use the General Equipment: Fluid Container
