Front Halfshaft RH: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. If equipped, With FWD. Clean and inspect the inner halfshaft splines and mating surfaces.

  2. Clean and inspect the outer halfshaft splines and mating surfaces.

  3. Replace the RH halfshaft seal. Refer to: Halfshaft Seal RH .
  4. Rotate the steering wheel fully to the LH side.

  5. NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
    NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18°.
    NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45°.
    NOTE: Do not fully install shaft at this time.

    Remove the special tool before completely installing the halfshaft.

  6. Inspect and install the RH halfshaft through the seal protector.

  7. Install the new halfshaft retaining strap and the new halfshaft retaining strap nuts.

    Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm) Stage 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  8. NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
    NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18°.
    NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45°.

    Position the RH halfshaft into the wheel bearing and hub.

  9. Using special tools, install the RH halfshaft into the wheel bearing and hub. Use Special Service Tool: 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) Installer, Halfshaft.

    Torque: 33 lb.ft (45 Nm)

  10. NOTE: Make sure a new nut is installed.

    Insert the lower ball joint into the wheel knuckle and install a new lower ball joint bolt and nut.

    Torque: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)

  11. Install the new flexible brake hose bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  12. Attach the tie rod and install a new tie rod nut.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) - Sigma 

  13. Position the TC outlet pipe and tighten the clamps.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    All vehicles 

  14. If equipped, Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  15. NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.
    NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.

    Install the wheel hub nut.

    Torque: Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm) Stage 2: 90°

  16. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  17. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
