Liftgate Alignment

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM Color Coding .

Check 

  1. Check the liftgate-to-body dimensions.

    1. Dimension: 0.2756 ±0.0591 in (7 ±1.5 mm)
    2. Dimension: 0.0591 ±0.0551 in (1.5 ±1.4 mm)
    3. Dimension: 0.1575 ±0.0787 in (4 ±2 mm)
    4. Dimension: 0.0787 ±0.0591 in (2 ±1.5 mm)
    5. Dimension: 0.2362 ±0.1575 in (6 ±4 mm)

Adjustment 

  1. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    On both sides.

    1. Remove the clip.
    2. Position aside the liftgate strut.

    Loosen the bolts enough to permit movement of the liftgate. Loosen: 1 turn(s)

  3. Loosen the liftgate striker bolts. Loosen: 1 turn(s)

  4. Adjust the liftgate to specification.

  5. Adjust the liftgate striker.

  6. Tighten the liftgate striker bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  7. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    Tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  8. Check the area for paintwork damage and repair if necessary.
  9. NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    On both sides.

    1. Install the strut.
    2. Install the clip.

Check 

  1. Check the body-to-liftgate dimensions.

    1. Dimension: 0.2756 ±0.0591 in (7 ±1.5 mm)
    2. Dimension: 0.0591 ±0.0551 in (1.5 ±1.4 mm)
    3. Dimension: 0.1575 ±0.0787 in (4 ±2 mm)
    4. Dimension: 0.0787 ±0.0591 in (2 ±1.5 mm)
    5. Dimension: 0.2362 ±0.1575 in (6 ±4 mm)

Adjustment 

  1. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to: Liftgate Trim Panel .
  2. Lower the headliner.

  3. Loosen the nuts enough to permit movement of the liftgate. Loosen: 1 turn(s)

  4. Loosen the liftgate striker bolts. Loosen: 1 turn(s)

  5. Adjust the liftgate to specification.

  7. Tighten the nuts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  10. On both sides. Remove the spacer.

  12. On both sides. Loosen the screw. Loosen: 2 turn(s)

  14. Carefully close the liftgate.

    Torque: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)
