Catalytic Converter: Removal

NOTE:
If the catalytic converter is not being replaced, the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor do not need to be removed from the catalytic converter. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is still necessary.
- Remove the HO2S. Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) .
- Remove and discard the fasteners and remove the catalytic converter shield.
- Disconnect the electrical connector. Detach the catalyst monitor sensor clip.
- Detach the catalyst monitor sensor clip and the wiring harness.
- Remove and discard the fasteners and remove the catalytic converter shield.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .

- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the bolts and support the A/C compressor.

NOTE: Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent or twisted.
Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties

NOTE: No need to spot weld the bracket to the clamp after installation.
If the bracket and the clamp is spot welded. Cut the spot weld to remove the clamp.
- Remove and discard the muffler and catalytic converter flange clamp. Detach the exhaust isolator.
- Remove and discard the lower fasteners of catalytic convertor.

- Remove and discard the top fasteners of catalytic convertor.
- Remove and discard the mounting bracket fastener.
- Remove the catalytic convertor.

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
Remove and discard the fasteners and remove the catalytic converter inner shield.

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
Remove catalyst monitor sensor.
- Remove and discard catalytic convertor gasket.
