Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

NOTE:
Special attention needs to be given to the sealing ports for the oil feed, the oil drain, and the coolant lines, on turbocharged engines. The sealing ports must be totally clean and free from O-ring residue, have no damage to the sealing surface and the lines to ensure that there are no leaks or repeat repairs.
NOTE:
The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

WARNING: WARNING: When releasing the cooling system pressure, cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a thick cloth.
Loosen the pressure release cap to release the cooling system pressure.
- Remove the engine appearance cover.

NOTE: Hose with crankcase pressure sensor shown, others are similar.
Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Loosen the clamps, then remove the turbocharger inlet pipe.

- Remove the turbocharger outlet tube bolt.
- Loosen the clamp, then position the turbocharger outlet tube out of the way.
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .

- Clamp off the turbocharger coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)
- Release the hose clamps and disconnect the turbocharger coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the turbocharger oil return tube retainers, then remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube gasket.
- Release the turbocharger bypass valve control hose clamp, then disconnect the hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the turbocharger wastegate control hose clamp, then disconnect the hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt and the turbocharger oil supply tube sealing washers.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger nuts, then the remove the turbocharger.
- Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolt, then remove and discard the turbocharger heat shield and gasket assembly.
- Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube bolts, then remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube.
- If needed, remove the turbocharger mounting studs.
- If needed, remove the turbocharger exhaust studs.
- If needed, remove the charge air cooler inlet pipe nuts, then remove charge air cooler inlet pipe from the turbocharger.
- If needed, remove the charge air cooler inlet pipe studs.
