Thermostat Housing: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: During installation, make sure the coolant outlet connection is fully seated on the thermostat housing before tightening the bolts.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the powertrain control module. Refer to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) .
  3. Release the clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

    Torque

    : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  4. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  5. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

    • Disconnect the quick release coupling.

    • Remove the bolts.

      Torque

      : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Release the clamp, disconnect the coolant hose and remove the thermostat housing. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  6. Inspect the thermostat housing O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
