Pinpoint Test N : The Heated Wiper Park Feature Is Inoperative

  1. N1 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST OPERATION

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Activate the rear window defrost feature.

    Does the rear window defrost operate? 

    Yes  GO to  N2
    No  REFER to: Glass, Frames and Mechanisms .
  2. N2 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Heated Wiper Park Relay.

    Did the heated wiper park relay pass the component test? 

    Yes  GO to  N3
    No  INSTALL a new heated wiper park relay.
  3. N3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED WINDSHIELD

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Install the heated wiper park relay.

    • Disconnect Heated Windshield Element C1531.

    • Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

      Ground

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Activate the rear window defrost feature.

    Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost feature is activated? 

    Yes  GO to  N7
    No  GO to  N4
  4. N4 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Remove the heated wiper park relay

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  N5
    No  VERIFY BJB Fuse 74 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the open circuit. If not OK, REFER to the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  5. N5 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Activate the rear window defrost feature.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Heated wiper park relay, cavity 3

      Ground

      Ground

    Are both voltages greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  N6
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. N6 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY COIL CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

      Battery Positive

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Activate the rear window defrost feature.

    Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost is activated? 

    Yes  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. N7 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD HEATED WIPER PARK GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Activate the rear window defrost feature.

    Does the test lamp illuminate when the rear window defrost feature is activated? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new windshield. REFER to: Fixed Glass .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
