Transfer Case - Overview

NOTE: Serviceability of the transfer case is limited to seals and the output flange. If any of the geared components, bearings, cases, covers or internal shafts fail, a new transfer case must be installed.

The transfer case is a gearbox that attaches to the transmission. The RH intermediate shaft passes through the transfer case and engages the differential side gear as in normal FWD applications. The transfer case directs torque to the rear axle through the rear driveshaft. The AWD control module is an electronic device which controls the rear axle coupling to apply the torque generated from the transfer case to the rear wheels when required.

Component Description

The transfer case is sealed from the transmission and has its own oil sump.

The internal components are not serviceable. If any of the geared components, bearings, cases, covers or internal shafts are worn or damaged, a new transfer case must be installed.
