Parking Brake Cable Adjustment - Vehicles With: Rear Drum Brakes: Adjustment

NOTE:
LHD shown, RHD similar.
- Detach the parking brake control boot and position the boot upward on the handle.
- Remove and discard the lock nut.
- Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut 5 full turns.
- On both sides. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- On both sides. Remove the brake drum.
- Expand the gauge, measuring the inside diameter of the brake drum and tighten the screw on the gauge. Use Special Service Tool: 206-D002 (D81L-1103-A) Gauge, Brake Adjustment.

- Check to make sure the abutment on the parking brake levers are resting on the brake shoes.
- Rotate the adjusters in or out as necessary to obtain the correct adjustment.
- Make sure the brake shoes are correctly adjusted. The brake shoe linings should make light contact with the arms on the gauge. Use Special Service Tool: 206-D002 (D81L-1103-A) Gauge, Brake Adjustment.
- Install a cable tie on the RH rear brake shoe and the parking brake lever. Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties
- Install a 2 mm hex wrench between the abutment on the LH parking brake lever and the brake shoe.
- Adjust the parking brake cable adjustment nut until the hex wrench falls out.
- Remove the cable tie.
- Install a new lock nut.
- On both sides. Install the brake drum.
- On both sides. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
