Section 53 (Engine - 1.0L ECOBOOST (92KW/125PS)): Removal: Engine

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Magnetic Socket
Lifting Bracket
Floor Crane
Oil Drain Equipment
Trolley Jack
Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
Wooden Block
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Hood .
    2. Refer to: Cowl Panel .
    3. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .

  5. Disconnect the vacuum pump inlet tube coupling.

  6. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Loosen the clamps and remove the nuts.
    2. Release the clamp and disconnect the vacuum hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    3. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    4. Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
    5. Disconnect the PCV coupling.
    6. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.

  7. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Remove the bolt.
    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC outlet pipe.

    1. Detach the coolant hose retainers.
    2. Disconnect the degas bottle coolant tube.
    3. Disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    4. Disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    5. Release the tabs and remove the degas bottle and hose assembly.

    1. Remove the nuts.
    2. Remove the bolt.

    • Loosen the clamp and remove the CAC inlet pipe.

  10. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    2. Refer to: Battery Tray .
    3. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
    4. Refer to: Starter Motor .
    5. Refer to: Throttle Body .

    1. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector.
    2. Remove the ground bolt.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainer.

    1. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    2. Remove the retainers and position the wiring harness aside.

    1. Detach the coolant hose retainers.
    2. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    1. Disconnect the coolant solenoid electrical connector.
    2. Detach the coolant hose retainer.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    1. Detach the coolant hose retainers.
    2. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose.
    3. Disconnect the coolant pump electrical connector.
    4. Remove the bolt and position the coolant pump aside.

  16. Disconnect the coolant hose.

  17. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    1. Disconnect the fuel supply tube. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .
    2. Disconnect the EVAP vapor supply tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  19. Loosen the clamps and remove the radiator hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    1. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    3. Remove the bolts and support the A/C compressor.

    1. Disconnect the transmission main control and TSS electrical connectors.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the main control cover stud bolts and position the wiring harness aside.

  22. Remove the bolt and the ground wire.

  23. Remove the torque converter nut access plug.

  24. NOTE: Only rotate the engine in a clockwise direction or engine damage will occur.
    NOTE: Index mark one stud and flexplate for assembly reference.
    NOTE: The torque converter nuts are accessed from the top of the vehicle.

    Using a magnetic socket, remove and discard the torque converter nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket

  25. Remove the transmission-to-engine bolt.

  26. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the drain plug, drain engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
