Engine Front Cover: Removal

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  2. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  3. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
    2. Refer to: Valve Cover .
    3. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
    4. Refer to: Generator - 1.0L EcoBoost (92kW/125PS) .

  4. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Remove the bolt.
    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC inlet pipe.

    1. Loosen the clamp.
    2. Remove the fasteners and the throttle body/bracket assembly.

  5. Remove the bolts and the lifting eye.

    1. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainer.

  6. Remove the bolts and separate the thermostat housing from the engine front cover.

  7. NOTE: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine.

  8. Release the tabs and position the degas bottle aside.

    1. Remove the nuts.
    2. Remove the bolts and the engine mount.

  9. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-1606 Locking Tool, Variable Camshaft Timing.

  10. NOTE: Discard the bolts.

    Remove and discard the fasteners.

    • Remove the engine front cover.

  11. Remove and discard the gasket.

  12. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the bolt and the idler pulley.
