Engine Front Cover: Installation

  1. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Install the tube and the bolts.

    Torque 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  2. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: Install all the bolts finger tight before final tightening.

    Install the coolant pump and the bolts.

    Torque 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Install the CKP and the bolt.

    Install the idler pulley and the bolt.

    Torque 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  5. Install a new gasket.

  6. NOTE: The component must be installed within 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Apply beads of silicone sealant that are 4 mm (0.157 in) and 6 mm (0.236 in) as shown in the graphic.

  7. NOTE: The component must be installed within 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Apply beads of silicone sealant that are 4 mm (0.157 in) on the edge of the engine oil pan.

  8. NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.
    NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

    1. Torque

      1-2, M6x60: 44 lb.in (5 Nm) 3-6, M10x95: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 7-16, M6x60: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Torque

      3-6: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm) 3-4: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm) 5-6: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm) 1-2: 80 lb.in (9 Nm) 7-16: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

    3. Torque

      3-4: 90 deg. 5-6: 90 deg. 1-2: 90 deg. 7-16: 90 deg. 17-19, M6x20: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 20, M6x75: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    4. Torque

      17-19: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 20: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  9. Install Special Service Tool: 303-1606 Locking Tool, Variable Camshaft Timing.

    Torque 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Turn until resistance is felt.
    2. Torque

      133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  10. Tighten the RH engine mount studs.

    Torque 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Install the engine mount and the nuts.

      Torque 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

    2. NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

      Install the engine mount bolts finger-tight.

  12. Tighten the engine mount bolts.

    Torque 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  13. Install the degas bottle onto the tabs.

  14. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Wipe clean the mating surfaces.

    1. NOTE: Make sure that the component is correctly installed.

      Install the throttle body/bracket assembly.

    2. NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

      Install the fasteners finger tight.

  15. Tighten the fasteners and the clamp.

    Torque 1-3: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 4: 27 lb.in (3 Nm)

  16. Install the lifting eye and the bolts.

    Torque 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

  17. Install the thermostat housing and bolts.

    Torque 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
    2. Attach the wiring harness retainer.

  18. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Install the CAC inlet pipe and the bolt.

      Torque 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    2. Tighten the clamps.

      Torque 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  19. Install the following items:

    1. Refer to: Generator - 1.0L EcoBoost (92kW/125PS) .
    2. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
    3. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
    4. Refer to: Valve Cover .

  20. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the drain plug, drain engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  21. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

  22. NOTE: Lubricate the engine oil filter seal with clean engine oil.

    Install a new engine oil filter.

    Torque 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  23. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  24. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  25. Use the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
