Transmission - 1.0L EcoBoost (92kW/125PS): Removal

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
Remove the cowl panel. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .
Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.
1. Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamps, remove the nuts. Disconnect the vacuum tube from air outlet pipe. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
2. Disconnect the fuel evaporative tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
3. Disconnect the PCV coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
4. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.
5. Clean, inspect, and cover all open ports.

Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
Remove the wiring harness push pin retainers, the nuts and the battery support bracket.

Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever, remove the bracket bolts and position aside the selector lever cable and bracket.

Detach the transmission vent tube from the coolant hose.

Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
Remove the bolt and position aside the ground strap.

Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the main control cover stud bolts. Disconnect the transmission main control connector, the TSS and position aside the wiring harnesses.

Remove the transmission fluid heater coolant control valve nuts and position aside the valve.

Remove and discard the transmission fluid cooler tube bolts. Loosen the transmission fluid cooler tube fitting and remove the cooler tubes.

Inspect the transmission fluid warmer to be sure that the transmission fluid cooler tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid cooler tubes and are not stuck in the transmission fluid warmer. If the transmission fluid cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission fluid warmer, remove the seals and the backing rings.

Using the special tool and a connecting link, support the engine. Use Special Service Tool: 303-290-01 Adapter for 303-290A., 303-290-03A Adapter for 303-290A., 303-290-05A Adapter for 303-290A., 303-290B Support Bar, Engine.

NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, drain the transmission fluid.

Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission. Install the drain plug.

Torque

: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

Remove the retainers and the LH inner splash shield.

WARNING: WARNING: Make sure that no load is placed on the brake hose.

Remove the bolt and position aside the RH brake hose.

Remove the bolt, detach the retainer and position aside the RH front wheel speed sensor.

WARNING: WARNING: Make sure that a new bolt is installed.

NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.

NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

Remove and discard the RH lower ball joint nut and bolt.

NOTE: Do not pull on the halfshaft. Pull or pry on the inner CV housing only or damage may occur.

Position aside and support the RH halfshaft.

If the transmission is to be overhauled or if installing a new or re-manufactured transmission, carry out the transmission fluid cooler backflushing and cleaning. Clean the transmission-mounted fluid cooler tubes by hand.
