Transmission Fluid Level Check

Materials 

Name Specification
Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-10-QLVC WSS-M2C938-A MERCON® LV,

Check 

  1. Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle. Monitor the TFT PID.
  2. With the engine running in PARK on a level surface make sure the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85-93 deg. C (185-200 deg. F). If necessary, drive the vehicle until the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85-93 deg.C (185-200 deg.F).
  3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  4. If equipped, remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

  5. Start the engine and slowly select each gear position, stopping in each position and allowing the transmission to engage.
  6. With the engine running in PARK on a level hoist make sure the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85-93 deg. C (185-200 deg. F). Check the transmission fluid is even with the oil leveling plug hole.

    1. Standard transmission case (M10 plug)
    2. Fuel economy transmission case (M20 plug)

  7. Release the clips and position aside the air cleaner cover.

  8. NOTE: With the lower air cleaner assembly removed, only idle the engine with the vehicle on a hoist. Do not drive vehicle with the lower air cleaner assembly removed or engine damage may occur.

    • Remove the pushpin retainer.

    • Remove the isolator.

    • Disconnect the resonator pipe.

    • Remove the air lower cleaner assembly.

  9. Disconnect the vent tube retainer.

  10. Compress the constant tension clamp and remove the transmission vent from the fill tube.

  11. Add clean transmission fluid in increments of 0.25L (0.5 pt) until the transmission fluid is even with the oil leveling plug hole.

  12. Install the oil leveling plug.

    1. Standard transmission case (M10 plug)

      Torque : 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    2. Fuel economy transmission case (M20 plug)

      Torque : 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

  13. With the clamp facing the front of the vehicle, compress the constant tension clamp and install the transmission vent on the fill tube.

  14. Connect the vent tube retainer.

    • Install the air lower cleaner assembly.

    • Connect the resonator pipe.

    • Install the isolator.

    • Install the pushpin retainer.

  15. Position back the air cleaner cover and attach the clips.

  16. If equipped, install the underbody shield and the bolts.
