Rear Halfshaft: Installation

NOTE: The halfshaft seal has to be replaced whenever the halfshaft is removed.
  1. Replace the rear halfshaft seal. Refer to: Rear Halfshaft Seal .
  2. NOTE: The halfshaft circlip has to be replaced whenever the halfshaft is removed.

    Install the new rear halfshaft retaining circlip.

  3. Install the rear halfshaft.

  4. Remove the filler plug.

  5. NOTE: Fill the rear axle with 0.47-0.62L (1.0-1.3 pt) of rear axle lubricant. If fluid level is low, fill to 0-2 mm (0-0.079 in) below the bottom of the filler hole.

    Correct the rear axle oil level if necessary. Refer to: Specifications .

    Material: Motorcraft® SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant / XY-80W90-QL (WSP-M2C197-A)

  6. Install the filler plug.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  7. Install the wheel knuckle. Refer to: Wheel Knuckle - Vehicles With: Rear Drum Brakes .
