Seat Backrest - Front: Removal

NOTE: For component identification and locations, refer to Seat -- Exploded View, Front .

All seats 

  1. Remove the seat. Refer to Seat -- Front .
  2. Detach the carpet flap toe-kick retainers from under the seat.

  3. Remove the recliner cover.

    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Remove the scrivet.
    3. Lift and release the hook.

  4. Remove the screw from the back of the side shield.

    Power seats with manual lumbar 

  5. Release the retainers and remove the side shield.

  6. Detach the cushion cover outboard J-clips and position the cushion cover flap up.

  7. Remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster.

    1. Separate the cable retainers.
    2. Pull the cable cover out of the adjuster.

    Multi-contour seats 

  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors from under the seat.

  9. Remove the cushion side shield.

    1. Release the fasteners.
    2. Disconnect the memory set switch.
    3. Lift and slide the side shield forward to release.

  10. NOTE: Note the wire harness routing for installation

    Under the seat, disconnect the electrical connectors and multi-contour seat hoses.

    1. Disconnect the side airbag electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect backrest electrical connector and release the wire harness retainer.
    3. Separate the multi-contour seat hoses by pushing the release buttons and disconnecting.

  11. Route the wire harness(es) and air hoses out of the hole(s) in the carpet flap toe-kick.

    6-way power seats 

  12. Remove the seat control switch.

    • Disconnect the wire harness connector from the seat control switch.

  13. Release the retainers and remove the cushion side shield.

    Manual seats 

  14. Remove the cushion side shield cover.

    1. Remove the cushion side shield cover.
    2. Remove the cushion side shield screw.

  15. Remove the side shield.

    1. Release the retaining clip and remove the recline handle.
    2. Release the side shield fasteners.

    All seats 

  16. WARNING: Use care when the seat back frame is removed and when releasing the recliners from a backrest upright position. The recliners are spring-loaded, which may cause the recliner upper arms to fold with significant speed/force. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
    NOTE: Follow the unique instructions or graphic for this step in the installation.

    Remove the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts and remove the backrest assembly.
