Muffler and Tailpipe: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
    1. Remove the rear bolts from the deflector - rear axle air.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    2. Remove the push pin retainers.
    3. Remove the front bolts from the deflector - rear axle air.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    4. Remove the deflector - rear axle air rivet style push pin retainers.
    5. Remove the deflector - rear axle air.

  2. NOTE: LH side shown, RH similar.
    NOTE: Bumper not shown for clarity.

    Disconnect the LH and RH tailpipe actuator electrical connectors. Detach the wiring retainers.

    1. Loosen the LH and RH clamp nuts.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    2. Release the locking tabs on the clamps.
    3. Position the clamps rearward.

  3. NOTE: Similar application shown.

    1. Remove the LH and RH rear exhaust hanger isolator bracket bolts from the rear subframe.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    2. Unhook the rear exhaust hanger isolators and remove the muffler and tailpipe.
