Catalytic Converter: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: If the catalytic converter is not being replaced, the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor do not need to be removed from the catalytic converter. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is still necessary.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
    1. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
    2. Remove and discard the nuts.

      Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  2. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.

    1. Loosen the clamp and release the tab and slide the clamp back on the muffler. Separate the muffler and tailpipe from the catalytic converter.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    2. Detach the exhaust isolator.

  3. Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  4. Remove and discard the gasket.
