Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.
NOTE: Special attention needs to be given to the sealing ports for the oil feed, the oil drain, and the coolant lines, on turbocharged engines. The sealing ports must be totally clean and free from O-ring residue, have no damage to the sealing surface and the lines to ensure that there are no leaks or repeat repairs.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
  3. Disconnect the TC bypass valve electrical connector and then detach the wire harness retainers.

  4. Loosen the TC outlet pipe clamps and then remove the TC outlet pipe.

  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors and the wire harness retainers.

  6. Remove the bolts, then position and support the A/C compressor out of the way.

  7. Remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube. Refer to: Turbocharger Coolant Supply Tube .
  8. Disconnect the TC control hoses.

  9. Remove the TC oil supply tube retaining bolts, then remove and discard the TC oil supply tube assembly.

  10. Remove and discard the TC oil filter.

  11. Remove the TC oil drain tube bolts, then remove and discard the TC oil drain tube.

  12. Remove and discard the upper TC mounting nuts, remove the lower TC heat shield retaining bolt and then remove the TC heat shield.

  13. Remove and discard the lower TC mounting nuts, then remove the TC.

  14. Remove and discard the TC gasket.

  15. If needed, remove and discard the TC mounting studs.
