Cylinder Head LH: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Refer to: Camshaft LH .
- Refer to: Exhaust Manifold LH .
- Install the LH engine mount bracket, bolts and stud bolt.
Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

- Using the special tools, lower the engine onto the LH engine mount.
- Remove Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine, 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.
- Remove the nut and position the ground strap aside.
- Disconnect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensors and the ignition interference capacitor electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the cylinder head.

- Remove and discard the bolts.
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Discard the cylinder head gasket.

NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.NOTE: Clean the cylinder head bolt holes in the cylinder block using compressed air. Make sure all coolant, oil or other foreign material is removed.
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head-to-cylinder block mating surfaces of both the cylinder head and the cylinder block
