Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Assembly

- Identification mark for LH or RH piston.
- Arrow on the top of the dome of the piston should be facing toward the front of the engine block
- Bump on connecting rod should be facing toward the front of the engine block
- Position the piston on the connecting rod.
- Lubricate and install the piston pin.
Material: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic Motor Oil / XO-5W50-QGT (WSS-M2C931-C)

NOTE: The piston pin retainer gap orientation must be toward the bottom of the piston.
Install the piston pin retainers.
- Lubricate and install the oil control rings.
- Lower oil control ring.
Material: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic Motor Oil / XO-5W50-QGT (WSS-M2C931-C)
- Oil control expander ring.
- Upper oil control ring.
- Lower oil control ring.
- Install the lower compression ring.
- The identification mark on the ring pointing up toward the top of the piston.
- Hook feature will point down toward the bottom of piston.

- Install the upper compression ring.
- The identification mark on the ring pointing up toward the top of the piston.
Material: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic Motor Oil / XO-5W50-QGT (WSS-M2C931-C)
- The identification mark on the ring pointing up toward the top of the piston.
- Position the piston ring gaps.
- Upper compression ring gap.
- Lower compression ring gap.
- Upper oil control ring gap.
- Oil control expander ring gap (Center line of the piston parallel to the wrist pin bore).
- Lower oil control ring gap.
