Fuel Tank: Removal

All vehicles
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
- Remove the retainers and the LH underbody shield.
- Remove the muffler and tailpipe. Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe

AWD
- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to: Rear Driveshaft
.
FWD
- Remove the retainers and the RH shield.
All vehicles

- Disconnect the fuel tank electrical connector.
- Release the pin-type retainers and position aside the fuel tank harness.
- Disconnect the fuel feed tube-to-fuel tank quick release coupling and the vapor tube-to fuel tank quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
- Install the Powertrain Lift under the fuel tank. Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift.
- Remove the fuel tank strap bolts and lower the fuel tank enough to gain access to the vapor tubes.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Disconnect the vapor tube from the top of the fuel tank and position vapor tube aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
