Catalytic Converter: Removal

NOTE: Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
  3. Remove the HO2S. Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) .
  4. Remove and discard the catalytic converter nuts.

  5. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

  7. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe .
  8. Remove the catalyst monitor sensor. Refer to: Catalyst Monitor Sensor .
  9. NOTE: Similar powertrain shown.

    If equipped. Remove the retainers and the floor pan under body shields.

  10. Remove the retainers and the front crossmember brace.

  11. Remove the bolts from the exhaust isolator bracket to the subframe.

  12. Remove the catalytic converter bracket through bolt.

  13. NOTE: If needed, mark the bracket to the transmission to make sure of proper placement during installation.

    Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter bracket.

  14. Remove the catalytic converter.

  15. Remove and discard the gasket.
