Catalytic Converter: Removal

NOTE:
Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Remove the HO2S. Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) .
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter nuts.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Remove the muffler and tailpipe. Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe .
- Remove the catalyst monitor sensor. Refer to: Catalyst Monitor Sensor .

NOTE: Similar powertrain shown.
If equipped. Remove the retainers and the floor pan under body shields.
- Remove the retainers and the front crossmember brace.
- Remove the bolts from the exhaust isolator bracket to the subframe.
- Remove the catalytic converter bracket through bolt.

NOTE: If needed, mark the bracket to the transmission to make sure of proper placement during installation.
Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter bracket.
- Remove the catalytic converter.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
