Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - Vehicles With: Active Warm Up: Removal

NOTE: Perform the following steps to remove any tubes.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    NOTE: Perform the following three steps to remove the front tubes or the transmission fluid warmer tubes.
  3. Remove the bolts and the LH splash shield.

  4. Remove the quick-connect coupling secondary latch.

  5. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

    NOTE: Perform the following five steps to remove the front tubes.
  6. Remove the active grille shutter. Refer to: Active Grille Shutter .
  7. Remove the quick-connect coupling secondary latch.

  8. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tube from the cooler bypass valve. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

  9. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolts.

  10. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Release the clamps, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid cooler and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes.

    1. Rotate the transmission fluid cooler tubes clockwise.
    2. Pull the transmission fluid cooler tubes out and remove.

    NOTE: Perform the following six steps to remove the transmission fluid warmer tubes.
  11. Remove the LHF wheel and tire assembly. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  12. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolts.

  13. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
  14. Remove the quick-connect coupling secondary latch.

  15. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tube from the cooler bypass valve. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

  16. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the bolts, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid warmer and route the tubes toward the bottom of the vehicle.

  17. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes.

  18. NOTE: Inspect the transmission fluid warmer to be sure that the cooler tube seals and backing rings were removed with the cooler tubes. If the cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the warmer, remove the seals and backing rings.

    If necessary, remove the backing rings and band seals from the transmission fluid warmer.

    1. Band seal (7D285).
    2. Backing ring (7J324).

    NOTE: Perform the following four steps to remove the transmission fluid cooler bypass valve-to-transmission tubes.
  19. Remove the LHF wheel and tire assembly. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  20. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bolt.

  21. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the stud bolt, completely loosen the fittings, and remove transmission fluid cooler tubes.

    1. Remove the stud bolt.
    2. Completely loosen the transmission fluid cooler tube fittings.

  22. NOTE: Inspect the transmission to be sure that the cooler tube seals and backing rings were removed with the cooler tubes. If the cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission, remove the seals and backing rings.

    If necessary, remove the backing rings and band seals from the transmission.

    1. Backing ring (7J324).
    2. Band seal (7D285).
